HOUSING. The usual pragmatism of housing
In this episode, we invited architects Eduardo Souto de Moura and Nuno Sampaio to talk about a topic as pressing as housing, moderated by Carlos Machado e Moura.
Naturally, and because it will be impossible to dissociate it from a socio-economic and political context, the conversation revolves around national legislative changes and the direction the profession has taken in comparison with different European examples. Housing is also discussed from the point of view of programming, experimentation or typological and constructive standardization, as well as new models of housing and cohabitation in response to demographic and social changes.
The socio-economic and political context, legislative changes and the challenges facing the profession have not dampened Eduardo Souto Moura’s enthusiasm. He leaves us with this poetic image of the heteronymous architect: the one who has to be able to absorb and reveal himself in the design of a house. And he does so with the same dedication with which, through his usual pragmatism, he discusses the application of the universal door detail.

This brings us to the end of the Por Portas e Janelas (Through Doors and Windows) program where, over the course of 12 episodes, we’ve tackled various topics in dialogue with the main institutions. Now we close this cycle of conversations that have led us to new subjects, techniques and discourses, opening windows on cities, problems and perspectives.

This episode is sponsored by CIN. “CIN believes in the transformative power of architecture”.
