Sound It: Incertos Contextos – Mesa 03

Uncertain Contexts – Event 03
Guests: Cássio Sauer, Elisa Martins, Guilherme Pianca, Amélia Brandão Costa, Rodrigo da Costa Lima

‘Time is not linear, it is a marvellous tangle where, at any instant, points can be chosen and solutions invented, without beginning or end.’ This statement by Lina Bo Bardi serves as an afterthought to the experience we had in producing the Entrevistas Póstumas podcast. In the process of selecting the speeches of the three Brazilian masters – Oscar Niemeyer, Vilanova Artigas, and Lina herself – and creating the fictitious conversations we had with them, we observed how the accounts of their ideals and challenges in architecture are not only similar, but extremely topical. Between the lines, we can also perceive their conscious readings of the social, political and economic context in which they were operating. In a timeless way, they seem to speak of the same idea of architecture based on the negotiation between intentions and restrictions, pragmatism and utopia.

So, bearing in mind the lessons left by these and other masters, in Uncertain Contexts, the second instalment of our collaboration with Rádio Antecâmara, we will hold three panel discussions with the aim of debating different interpretations of the current situation in the field of architecture. How do we see the moment we’re in? What are our urgencies and opportunities? From the perspective of architectural practice, how can we operate in these contexts? What can the history of architecture teach us?

Sound It brings Rádio Antecâmara’s residency to Garagem Sul at CCB. With a vast programme over six months, the studio welcomes numerous guests, and it is through dialogues between architects, artists, designers, and in conversations with poets or landscape architects, between interludes made of sounds and music, that Rádio Antecâmara takes a closer look at our contemporaneity.
The programme hosts interviews and conversations recorded on the opening day of the exhibition and future programmes, the result of integrating new elements into Radio through Open Call.
Sound It explores the ways in which sound constructs and shapes perception and spatial experience. Transcending the visual dimension and going beyond acoustics, Sound It delves into the perceptual, narrative, emotional and referential dimensions of space. It’s a subjective journey to discover an invisible architecture, a space perceived sonically, an audible and emotional place.
The word is the virus of radio, sound is the matter of space.
