SANS SOUCI
‘SANS SOUCI’ by Carlos No is a plastic reflection on the concepts of home, loss and exclusion. For this exhibition, Carlos No sought to explore the concept of home, evoking, in particular, the problem of gentrification in urban centres. Through the use of, and reference to, materials and objects that bring us back to the idea of home and housing, the artist questions the socio-spatial segregation detectable in contemporary cities, as well as the associated increase in social inequalities. These works therefore summon up, from their artistic place, a reflection on the recurring and global problem of the peripheralisation of populations with fewer economic resources, who are systematically pushed out of the most valued areas of cities. Two sculptures will be presented, which until now have only existed as a project, and which were produced taking into account the specific conditions of the galery space. In addition to the sculptures, the exhibition also features a set of preparatory works, including drawings associated with the creation of these sculptures, and a significant set of models – of the sculptures on display and other older works – which, in the artist’s working process, support the conception of the works in production, contributing to a better understanding of the works and how they will function in the space for which they are intended. Carlos No’s work process is thus closely linked to the creative methods and working methodologies common in an architectural studio.
