Carlos No
Born in Lisbon in 1967. Lives in Lisbon and works in Ericeira. He studied painting at AR.CO – Centro de Arte e Comunicação Visual, 1987-1992, and also studied sculpture in 1987. Since 1991 he has taken part in various group exhibitions, both in Portugal and abroad, and held his first solo exhibition in 1994. In 1993 he won 1st prize for painting at the Portimão Art Fair and in 1995 he was selected to represent Portugal at the Biennial of Young Creators of Europe and the Mediterranean in Rijeka, Croatia.
His most recent exhibitions include the solo shows ‘Fosso’, at Galeria Monumental, in Lisbon; ‘Impasse’, at SNBA – Sociedade Nacional Belas Artes, in Lisbon, and at Museu José Malhoa, in Caldas da Rainha; ‘Finisterra’, at Museu Nogueira da Silva, in Braga; ‘Estais’, Museu Municipal de Faro, in Faro; ‘Exílio’, at Casa-atelier Vieira da Silva, Fundação Arpad Szenes – Vieira da Silva, in Lisbon; the exhibition “Peut-être Demain”, at Galerie Elizabeth Couturier, in Lyon; the group exhibitions “Impressões Digitais”, at MNAC, in Lisbon; “Fenda”, Fundação Eugénio de Almeida, Évora; “NegOcio”, Centro Cultural Las Cigarreras, Alicante, Spain and ’Sob o Signo de Amadeo. Um Século de Arte’, at the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation’s Modern Art Centre, as well as the joint exhibitions with Pedro Valdez Cardoso – “Ignoto” – at the Centro de Artes and Centro Emmerico Nunes, in Sines, and with Rui Horta Pereira – “Arame” – at the Bangbang Gallery, in Lisbon.
