Luandando – kubanga kukatula

‘LUANDANDO – kubanga kukatula’ is an exhibition that recreates experiences of informality in Luanda, and culminates the radio programme conducted by Paulo Moreira over several months, in which he reflected on how architecture and urban space are “being made” in the Angolan capital, in a continuous and incessant collective effort.

‘Kubanga Kukatula’ means ‘to assemble and disassemble’ in Kimbundu, referring to the transience of the lives of artists Lino Damião and Nelo Teixeira, both former residents of the Chicala neighbourhood in Luanda. Following a process of exploration of the ‘Observatório da Chicala’ archive and periods of residence between Lisbon and Porto, the exhibition presents a body of work on the artists’ identity and memory. The exhibition is the second public presentation of a project of artistic creation and research, centred on residencies, the production of works and exhibitions.
