Diogo Alvim

Diogo Alvim is a Portuguese sound artist, composer and architect whose transdisciplinary practice investigates the intersections between music, architecture and the visual arts. His work encompasses instrumental and electroacoustic compositions, site-specific sound installations, performances and collaborations with visual artists, choreographers and directors.

With a degree in Architecture from FAUL (2004), he went on to complete a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Composition at the Lisbon School of Music (2009 and 2011). He obtained a PhD in Composition and Sound Arts from the Sonic Arts Research Centre at Queen’s University Belfast (2016), with the thesis Music Through Architecture – Contributions to an Expanded Practice in Composition.

Her artistic practice investigates sound composition as a tool for spatial and material exploration, having developed projects such as “Campo Próximo” (with Matilde Meireles), “Canção Nova” (with André Guedes) and “Os Passos em Volta” (with Joana Braga). He has collaborated with artists and dance and theater companies such as Tânia Carvalho, Paula Diogo and Miguel Pereira. He is co-coordinator of the artistic research program Expansive Territories, developed at OSSO – Associação Cultural.

He is currently a guest lecturer at the Caldas da Rainha School of Arts and Design (ESAD.CR), where he teaches the Sound and Image courses, and an integrated researcher at CESEM – Center for the Study of Sociology and Musical Aesthetics at NOVA University Lisbon.
