Thorvaldur Sigurbjorn Helgason
Thorvaldur Sigurbjorn Helgason (b. 1991) is a freelance poet and journalist from Reykjavik, Iceland. Thorvaldur’s first book of poetry, a chapbook titled Draumar á þvottasnúru (Dreams on a clothesline), was published in 2016 by Partus Press in their Emerging Poets series. His second book and first in full length, Gangverk (Clockwork), was published by Mál og menning in 2019 and received the Grassroots Grant by the Icelandic Literature Center. Thorvaldur’s third book of poetry, manndómur (manhood), will be published by Mál og menning in the fall of 2022. Alongside his writing, Thorvaldur has also worked as a journalist and radio host. He has written and produced several radio series for The Icelandic National Broadcasting Service, including Orðin sem við skiljum ekki (The words we do not understand) and Listin að brenna bækur
(The Art of Burning Books). Thorvaldur has a BA degree in Theatre and Performance Making from the Iceland University of the Arts and an MA degree in Creative Writing from the University of Iceland.
