Simon Deprez
Simon Deprez is a Franco-Portuguese specialist in housing, shelter and the requalification of informal neighborhoods, with over 15 years’ experience in urban and humanitarian contexts. Currently based in Lisbon, he has collaborated with national and international organizations to promote sustainable and inclusive urban practices.
He is co-founder of the independent magazine Justo Custo, which addresses the challenges and experiences in the housing sector in Portugal. The first issue of the magazine, entitled “Leaving the cities”, focuses on people who, due to a lack of means to live in big cities, have chosen to move to the countryside or to small towns in the interior. In addition, Simon has contributed to international publications such as Shelter Projects, which brings together case studies on housing responses in emergency and development contexts. His experience also includes participation in informal neighbourhood upgrading programs, such as the Participatory Slum Upgrading Programme in Cameroon, where he was involved in reviewing national strategies and developing digital resource centers for urban regeneration.
