Raquel Castro
Raquel Castro (1976, Viseu) is a Portuguese director, researcher and curator specializing in soundscapes and sound art. She is the founder and director of the Lisboa Soa festival and the international symposium Invisible Places. She has a PhD in Communication and Arts from Universidade Nova de Lisboa and is a researcher at CICANT at Universidade Lusófona, where she also teaches.
Her filmography includes the documentaries Soundwalkers (2008) and SOA (2020), the latter of which won an award at the Caminhos do Cinema Português Festival and was included in the Netflix catalog in 2022. Castro has explored sound as a tool for ecological and cultural awareness, developing projects that cross art, science and urbanism. She is also the founder of the cultural association Sonora, dedicated to promoting transdisciplinary practices in the field of sound ecology.
