The ‘Permanências Efémeras’ residency programme speaks with André Martins, from FabLab Lisboa, and Rafael Calado, from Biolab Lisboa.
In this episode, we take the practices developed by FabLab Lisboa and Biolab Lisboa as our starting point to reflect on the relationships between digital fabrication, biological experimentation and collaborative creative processes. The conversation explores prototyping as a working methodology, addressing the role of experimentation, error, repetition and time in the construction of new materials, objects and forms of knowledge.
Throughout the episode, issues related to sustainability, innovation and collective learning are also discussed, highlighting the importance of open-access spaces where technology and biology intersect to promote more regenerative and responsible practices. Spanning prototypes, living processes and applied research, the conversation reveals how different temporalities – of matter, nature and creation – can challenge conventional models of production and pave the way for new ways of thinking about design.
A conversation that bridges technology, biology and ecology, inviting reflection on the value of process, experimentation and continuous transformation.
