Paulo Pereira

Paulo Pereira is an art historian with a Master’s degree in Art History from Universidade Nova de Lisboa and a PhD in History of Architecture from the Faculty of Architecture of Universidade Técnica de Lisboa. He was a critic for the Expresso newspaper (Expresso revista) on Comics and Art History (books, exhibitions, etc.) between 1985 and 1991. He collaborated on the Dicionário de Arte Contemporânea/Portugal (Presença, dir. Raquel H. da Silva) with entries on Portuguese comic authors (unpublished). He has been a guest speaker at various seminars, lectures and congresses in Portugal, Spain, France (CNRS), Germany, Italy, the USA and Brazil. He has collaborated on various catalogues relating to the subject. He has organised several exhibitions in Portugal and abroad. He was Vice-President of IPPAR between 1995 and 2002. He directed the History of Portuguese Art, in 3 volumes, (Círculo de Leitores, 1995). He published Lugares Mágicos de Portugal in 8 volumes (Círculo de Leitores, 2004-2005). He was co-director of the exhibition Neue Welten (New Worlds), shown at the Deutsche Historisches Museum in Berlin. He published the volume Arte Portuguesa. História Essencial (Essential History) (Temas & Debates, 2011). He also published the collection Deciphering Portuguese Art, in 8 volumes (Círculo de Leitores, 2014) and the collection Art and Science, in 5 volumes (Círculo de Leitores, 2018). He is a professor at the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Lisbon.
