Nuno Cera
Nuno Cera is a Portuguese photographer and video artist, born in Beja in 1972. His work explores spatial conditions, architecture and urban contexts through poetic and documentary approaches. Between 1995 and 1997, he studied at Maumaus – School of Visual Arts, in Lisbon. In 2001, he received a scholarship from the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation for an artistic residency at the Künstlerhaus Bethanien in Berlin.
In 2002, in collaboration with architect Diogo Seixas Lopes, he published the book Cimêncio, a survey of suburban landscapes. In 2004, he was nominated for the BES Photo award. His work has been exhibited and published internationally in various cultural institutions.
In 2019, he began a long-term research project on Sines, the city where he spent part of his adolescence and took his first steps in photography. This work resulted in the exhibition ‘Distant Lights’ in 2022, which included a photographic series and a two-channel video installation.
