Nuno Brandão da Costa

Nuno Brandão Costa is a Portuguese architect born in Porto in 1970. He graduated from the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Porto (FAUP) in 1994, where he completed his doctorate in 2013 and has been teaching since 1999. During his training, he did an internship at Herzog & de Meuron in Switzerland between 1992 and 1993 and collaborated with architects José Fernando Gonçalves and Paulo Providência from 1993 to 1997. In 1998, he began his independent practice after winning the competition for the Library of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities of the New University of Lisbon.

His work covers a variety of scales and programmes, including projects such as the Campanhã Intermodal Terminal and the rehabilitation and extension of the São João de Deus neighbourhood, both in Porto. His work has been exhibited at international events such as the Venice Architecture Biennale (2004) and the São Paulo Architecture Biennale (2005). Throughout his career, he has received honours such as the Secil Prize in 2008 and was appointed, together with Sérgio Mah, curator of the official Portuguese representation at the 16th Venice Architecture Biennale in 2018.
