Miguel Ferreira Mendes

Miguel Ferreira Mendes is an architect from the Lusíada University of Lisbon / Faculty of Architecture Politecnico Milano, Italy (1989-95). He has a Master’s Degree in Ecological Architecture from Biosphere2 / San Francisco Institute of Architecture, USA (1995) and a Post-Master’s Degree (DSA) Architecture de terre from CRAterre-ENSAG, France (2000-2002). As an independent architect, he favours a bioclimatic and humanist approach to architecture, based on the valorisation of Local Constructive Cultures, from a perspective of Sustainable Development. He is an advocate and promoter of participatory processes. He works as a designer, trainer, consultant and construction supervisor in Portugal and various countries (Angola, Algeria, Burundi, Cape Verde, France, Guinea-Bissau, Haiti, India, Italy, Madagascar, Mozambique, Nepal, Senegal, Syria). He is a member of CRAterre, a French laboratory with which he works on various projects and programmes for development, combating poverty and responding to disasters, in the field of architecture and construction.
