Luís Mendes

Luís Mendes is a Portuguese geographer and researcher specialising in urban studies, housing policies and human geography. He is a member of the Centre for Geographical Studies at the Institute of Geography and Spatial Planning of the University of Lisbon (IGOT-UL), where he has also been a guest lecturer since 2012.

He has a degree and a master’s in Geography from the Faculty of Letters of the University of Lisbon and completed his PhD in Human Geography at IGOT-UL with distinction. His research focuses on phenomena such as gentrification, urban regeneration, tourism, spatial justice and urban social movements, participating in various national and international scientific projects.

The author of more than 250 publications, his work has been honoured with scientific awards and he is frequently quoted in the national and international media.
