Julia Albani

She is a Lisbon-based curator, critic and communications strategist who specialises in inspiring and facilitating exchanges between individuals and institutions that carry out extraordinary work in the fields of humanised architecture, urbanism and design. Trained as an art and architecture historian, she has worked since 2003 in the fields of editing and curating, communication and public relations, in the context of exhibitions, conferences and publications. In 2016, she joined the Canadian Centre for Architecture (CCA) in Montreal as Associate Director of Communications, with the aim of strengthening the institution’s international positioning. Since August 2018, she has led the CCA’s international communication and public relations from its European base in Lisbon. Previous positions include: Project Manager at Urban Drift in Berlin (2003-2007), Executive Director at the Swiss Museum of Architecture in Basel (2007-2009), Assistant Curator and Head of the Curatorial Department at the Lisbon Architecture Triennale (2009-2012). She was invited to co-curate the Portuguese Pavilion at the Venice Architecture Biennale in 2010, together with Rita Palma, Delfim Sardo and José Mateus. In 2012, she joined Silke Neumann as Co-Director of the communications consultancy BUREAU N (Berlin, Basel, Lisbon), where she established the agency’s architecture unit. She believes in exhibitions, publications and independent architectural criticism, occasionally writing as a freelance critic for magazines.
