José Pedro Croft

José Pedro Croft is a Portuguese artist born in Porto in 1957. He has lived in Lisbon since he was a teenager and attended the Lisbon School of Fine Arts, where he graduated in Painting in 1981. Considered one of the main renovators of Portuguese sculpture, his work explores the relationship between sculpture and architecture, often deconstructing traditional architectural elements to create new spatialities.

Throughout his career, Croft has participated in important solo and group exhibitions, including a retrospective exhibition at the Belém Cultural Centre in 2002. In 2017, he represented Portugal at the 57th Venice Biennale with the installation ‘Medida Incerta’, made up of six glass and steel sculptures. His work is in the collections of prestigious institutions such as the Centre Pompidou in Paris and the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation in Lisbon.
