Joana Pestana Lages

Joana Pestana Lages is a Portuguese architect and researcher, born in Lisbon in 1979. She has a degree, a master’s and a PhD in Architecture and Urbanism from the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Lisbon, and has developed research on spatial justice, housing precariousness and gender equality.

She has worked in several international studios, including the Renzo Piano Building Workshop, and in 2017 founded Estúdio Periférico, dedicated to architecture with a social impact. She is a researcher at DINÂMIA’CET-Iscte and president of the “Women in Architecture” association, promoting equity in the sector. She coordinates research projects such as “Care(4)Housing”, focused on the right to housing.
