Emília Tavares (Lisbon, 1964) is a renowned Portuguese art historian, curator and critic, specialising in photography and new media. With a Master’s degree in Art History from Universidade Nova de Lisboa, she is the curator of Photography and New Media at the Museu Nacional de Arte Contemporânea – Museu do Chiado, where she has developed a vast curatorial activity, standing out for the sensitivity and depth with which she interprets contemporary art. With a career dedicated to researching Portuguese photography, teaching and art criticism, she has collaborated with academic and cultural institutions, authored several publications and curated exhibitions of great relevance to the national and international art scene.
