Working in an architectural studio was the foundation of Duarte Cardoso Ferreira’s career.
He even founded his own office with other partners and long-time friends and never thought he’d stop being an architect, until the sub-prime crisis hit.
Change became inevitable, and what at first was supposed to be a temporary foray into the corporate world turned out to be a path full of surprises and opportunities. A path that led him to the world’s largest real estate company, CBRE, where he is now the national head of strategic consulting.
Along this road (and this podcast), he has had as faithful musical companions Herbie Hancock, Keith Jarrett, Miles Davis, Bach and Pearl Jam.
In this series of interviews, we talk to architects who haven’t followed the traditional path of the profession: with one foot in architecture, their professional activity has found fertile ground in other creative fields. We navigate between expectations and archetypes: we try to understand how a degree in architecture made an alternative career path possible, how this “transition” took place and where this matrix still manifests itself in their daily activity.
We talk in the workspace of each guest, who also chooses the soundtrack, between the music they listen to while working or simply the music they can’t stop listening to.
