Resonances between body and place
This exhibition by Mariana Pinto Coelho Dias is a site-specific sound installation that invites visitors to listen to the city — particularly the area surrounding the Antecâmara Gallery — as a living, pulsating and porous body. The city is listened to as if it had organs, flows, rhythms
and areas of resistance, in dialogue with the human body as a point of listening, resonance and reception. The installation incorporates a multi-channel sound composition, constructed from field recordings made at different times and places in Arroios, and a resonant architectural structure developed by Galeria Antecâmara, using materials commonly used in models. This structure filters and diffuses sound through transducers, transporting the urban exterior into the interior of the exhibition space and opening
it up to the sound contamination of the city. The project is part of a processual and drifting logic, working with listening as a practice of inhabiting, collecting and sharing. It thus proposes a sound cartography of resonances in transit — between the city and the body, between the public and the private, between the individual and the collective.
