Catarina Pires

Catarina Pires is a Portuguese journalist with a career spanning more than two decades in the national press. A native of Lisbon, she was born in Chiado and raised in Paço de Arcos, having also lived in Bairro Alto and Almada, places that influence her emotional attachment to the city.
For 22 years, she was part of the Global Media group, collaborating with publications such as Notícias Magazine, DN Life and Diário de Notícias. In November 2020, she was one of the 17 journalists affected by a collective redundancy at the group, which motivated her to run for vice-president of the Journalists’ Union in 2021, advocating better working conditions and combating precariousness in the profession.
She currently writes for Mensagem de Lisboa, where she covers cultural and social issues related to the city. In 2024, he received an honourable mention in the Carlos Porto International Journalism Award for his interview with Rodrigo Francisco, director of the Almada Theatre Company and the Almada Theatre Festival.
