Catarina Carvalho

Catarina Carvalho is a Portuguese journalist with more than 20 years’ experience leading newsrooms in various media, including Sábado, Diário de Notícias, Diário Económico, Notícias Magazine, Evasões and Volta ao Mundo. She is currently the founder and director of Mensagem de Lisboa, a local and community journalism start-up dedicated to telling stories that are human and close to the people of Lisbon.
In addition to her work in newsrooms, Catarina sits on the board of WAN-IFRA’s World Editors Forum and was a fellow at the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism in Oxford. She is also a PhD candidate and has contributed to international debates on innovation in local journalism and the inclusion of under-represented communities.
