Carlos Antunes

Carlos Antunes is a Portuguese architect born in Coimbra in 1969. He graduated in Architecture from the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Porto (FAUP) in 1996, the year in which he founded Atelier do Corvo with architect Désirée Pedro. The studio, based in Miranda do Corvo, has stood out for projects that combine contemporary sensibility with the valorisation of historical and cultural heritage. Alongside his professional practice, Antunes began his academic career in 2008 as a lecturer in the Department of Architecture at the University of Coimbra (DARQ). He is currently completing his PhD in Contemporary Art at the College of Arts of the same university.

In addition to his work in architecture and teaching, Carlos Antunes has played a significant role in Coimbra’s cultural scene. Since 2010, he has been director of the Círculo de Artes Plásticas de Coimbra (CAPC), the institution responsible for organising Anozero – Coimbra’s Biennial of Contemporary Art. His work at Atelier do Corvo has been recognised with several awards, including the Diogo de Castilho Municipal Architecture Award in 2007 for the remodelling of the Chemistry Laboratory of the Science Museum of the University of Coimbra, in collaboration with João Mendes Ribeiro and Désirée Pedro.
