Ante-Escola

Ante-Escola is a project of pedagogical curation and artistic mediation that seeks to situate itself in a territorial interval between the body, art and places of education. In a direct relationship between the work of art and pedagogy, the mediating and artistic object are one and the same. The exhibition with the collective Os Espacialistas at the Antecâmara Gallery is the first moment of presentation of the idea of the school as a pedagogical and artistic research laboratory.

Through the creation of three School Holders loaded with ideas of bodies, spaces and object(s), The Spatialists propose to share processes and strategies of interstitial connections between various (in)disciplines that can converge and co-operate creatively with each other. The preposition Ante allows us to play with perspectives between being in front of, between and before, between those who teach and those who learn, between a formal and informal school, in belonging to a school that should be portable, comprehensive and not aimed at a single teaching model. Ante-Escola is not intended to be anti-school, but to transport the school in and out of itself and to a plurality of classroom possibilities in motion.

The Porta-Escolas, as pedagogical sculpture-architecture, are vehicles for learning, places of the body capable of housing works by various authors of an interdisciplinary nature in the future. Through themes such as ‘see, walk and talk’, ‘measure and mediate’ or ‘ski, draw and operate’, these artistic objects will be meeting points from which teachers and students will be invited to dialogue about questioning learning and rethinking teaching. The preposition Ante is a School proposition!

This exhibition, on show until 21 May, is part of the programme of the Culture and Education Biennial of the National Arts Plan, which will also support the next phases of the development and touring of this project.
