19 Finestre

It’s not just the amount of light a window provides… It’s not just the amount of noise it prevents, when it closes, when it opens… it’s not just that, is it?
Everything is involved. For what purpose does the window come, how do we use it, how do we forget it… (Manuel Tainha, A propósito de uma porta, Feb 2003)

Views that celebrate the unity between the individual and the place or that summon all the fears of the present, views animated by people, views suspended in memory, views made of light, smells and sounds. 19 Finestre belong to performers from Singapore, Paris, Maputo, Ouagadougou, Mértola, Rio de Janeiro, Cape Town, New York, Ifanadiana, Tunis, Beirut, Prague, Vienna, Praia and Mindelo. The images, languages and worlds they bring us enter into a dialog with the music of Quentin Tolimieri, Ernesto Rodrigues, Guilherme Rodrigues and Fyodor Stepanov.

19 Finestre were recorded during the making of the documentary O Encontro for Luciana Fina’s installation VUE portraits (2004) and have now found their radio form for Antecâmara. The translations from Arabic, Czech and German follow the original text in the body of each program.
