Por Portas e Janelas

Por Portas e Janelas

In this episode of Por Portas e Janelas, we visited the Terra Crua exhibition, on display at the MAC/CCB Architecture Centre until 11 October, to learn about the process of research and experimentation surrounding earthen construction in Portugal.

In conversation with curator Madalena Vidigal and architects Nuno Vasconcelos (DOING.pt) and Tânia Teixeira (CRU atelier), the episode traces the different stages that led to the exhibition, from interviews and the mapping of professionals and projects to the residencies and experiences developed in Lisbon. The conversation also touches on vernacular knowledge, the use of earth excavated from the city, and the challenges that continue to shape earthen construction in the Portuguese context.

Exploring sustainability, circularity and locally sourced materials, the episode reflects on the possibility of rethinking the relationship between architecture, territory and resources, whilst exploring the potential of earth as a material for building in a more local and conscious way.
