Nuno Melo Sousa

Nuno Melo Sousa is a Portuguese architect born in 1988, from Penafiel, in the north of Portugal. He graduated in Architecture from the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Porto (FAUP) in 2011, having completed mobility programmes at TU Delft, in the Netherlands, and at Balkrishna Doshi International Studio – Sangath, in India. After graduating, he collaborated with various studios, including [A] and Nuno Brandão Costa, where he took part in the development of projects of different types and scales.

Since 2012, Nuno Melo Sousa has had his own studio in Penafiel, a city about 40 kilometres from Porto. His work is characterised by a collaborative and intuitive process, valuing the close relationship with the local construction context and collaboration with regional craftsmen. He has also contributed to academia, teaching at INDA, the Faculty of Architecture at Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok. Recently, his work ‘Casa no Tâmega’ was honoured with the BMIAA’23 International Architecture Grand Prize, highlighting its relevance in the contemporary architectural panorama.
