Born in Rome and raised within a strongly female-led family tradition, Carmen Andriani* has made intellectual freedom, culture, and independence the guiding principles of her research. An architect, theorist, and designer, she has developed over several decades a body of work that moves across architecture, writing, installation, and drawing. Among her key inspirations are Margherita Hack and Patti Smith: the rigour of knowledge and the visionary power of poetry. Her work has been exhibited at major italian and international institutions, including the Venice Biennale, the Milan Triennale, MAXXI – National Museum of 21st Century Arts in Rome, Museo Novecento in Florence, the Reggia di Caserta, Palazzo Ducale of Urbino, and the Museum of Contemporary Art at Villa Bardini in Florence. Carmen Andriani received a Lifetime Achievement Award as part of the International Art and Architecture Event, Icastica, where she created a site-specific urban installation. In 2026, a monographic exhibition at Spazio_Embrice in Rome retraced the main stages of her research and professional practice.
*Carmen Andriani is an architect and Full Professor of Architectural and Urban Design.
