Rock, paper, or scissors is the starting point for the third workshop in the partnership between Antecâmara and Arquitetura Entre Vistas. Continuing the reflection on representation as both a tool and a form of expression in architecture, we now propose to explore matter itself, as a way to experiment with different forms of representation and ways of thinking about space. Each session lasts four hours, combining theoretical and practical components. The leader of each workshop will present a theoretical proposal that culminates in a short practical exercise.

Scissors. The leftovers are not thrown away—they are essential. The composition builds up, piece by piece. Awkward, unbalanced, a little too confident. Elements are slapped together. Some are out of scale. A window too large. A column too chubby. A stair going nowhere. The result might be a façade. Or an animal. Or a face. Or a fruit bowl. The exercise doesn’t take façades too seriously. No site. No program. Just two lists—one of architectural elements, one of everyday objects. They are not to be followed strictly. They are triggers. The mix of the two becomes a collage. A house that looks like strawberry ice cream. Or a cactus. Or both. It is a conversation. About architectural elements, the basic components of a project. About expression. Also about language. What makes a façade a façade? What makes it speak? Can a door be surprised? Can a balcony be shy? The building might wink. It might smile. It might pull a face. The façade doesn’t have to be silent. It can start a conversation. It can talk back.
