Nelo Teixeira
NELO TEIXEIRA studied painting and sculpture at the UNAP (National Union of Plastic Artists) workshops, and specialised in scenography and carpentry, an art he was taught in his family, where he learned to carve wooden masks according to the principles of Angolan ancestral art. Nelo’s artistic outlook turns to environmental and social themes, and is expressed through the incorporation of materials considered ‘rubbish’ in the contemporary world into the composition of his works. He has been exhibiting regularly since 2000 and has also built the scenery for numerous theatre and film plays. His work has already been exhibited at the Angolan Pavilion at the Venice Biennale 2015 (Italy), and other cultural spaces in Angola, Lisbon and Milan.
