Leonor Antunes

Leonor Antunes is a Portuguese visual artist born in Lisbon in 1972. After attending the first year of Scenography at the Lisbon Theatre and Film School, she graduated in Visual Arts – Sculpture at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Lisbon. Since 2005, she has lived and worked in Berlin. His work explores the intersection between sculpture, architecture and design, often reinterpreting modernist objects and architectural details.

Antunes uses materials such as cork, brass, rubber, ceramics, wood and glass, and draws inspiration from prominent figures of the 20th century, including artists, designers and architects. His artistic practice involves creating sculptural installations that dialogue with the exhibition space, inviting the viewer into a reflective interaction. In 2019, he represented Portugal at the 58th Venice Biennale with the exhibition ‘A seam, a surface, a hinge and a knot’. Her work has been recognised with awards such as the EDP Foundation New Artists Award in 2001 and the Zurich Art Prize in 2018.
